UNIVERSITY of the East appointed veteran mentor Jerry Yee as the new coach of the Lady Warriors yesterday.
After his departure from the Adamson University women’s volleyball team earlier this month, Yee has found a new home at the Lady Warriors camp in their bid to regain lost glory.
Yee, 49, replaced Ronwald Dimaculangan. UE last reached the Final Four in the league’s 69th season.
“I am incredibly grateful to the UE community for welcoming our group with open arms. I am also thrilled about the opportunity to work with this exceptional group of coaches. UE is widely recognized for having one of the best basketball and volleyball programs in the Philippines,” team manager Jared Lao, son of sports patron Frank Lao, said in a statement yesterday.
“With that being said, our aim is to restore the glory days of the Red Warriors. We are excited to contribute to the development of young basketball and volleyball players, helping them gradually achieve their dreams.”
Yee previously coached the Lady Falcons in the last women’s volleyball wars that saw the San Marcelino-based belles advance to the semifinals but they parted ways after only one season.
Yee also coaches reigning two-time NCAA champion College of St. Benilde.
He will also handle new PVL team Farm Fresh in the coming Invitational Conference.
“It is a privilege to have coach Jerry Yee as our head coach. Coach Jerry’s reputation and experience in the field of volleyball are well-known. With his extensive knowledge and expertise, there is no doubt that his leadership will steer the team in a new direction,” said Lao, who also supports the programs of CSB and Letran High School.
