WITHOUT lifting her racket, Alex Eala attained another milestone yesterday (Monday in the US), becoming the first Filipino tennis player to reach the women’s singles quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 Miami Open with a walkover win over injured Paula Badosa of Spain in Florida.
After two hard-fought matches against two Grand Slam champions in Latvian Jelena Ostapenko and American Madison Keys, Eala got the much-needed break when Badosa withdrew with a back injury after winning her fourth-round match 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) over Dane Clara Tauson the previous day.
“We’re still here! Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone for the support. Back to business tonight,” Eala exclaimed on her Instagram account.
“Not the way I want to move on in my first WTA1000 QF. I wish Paul a speedy recovery,” she added.
