NO Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon, no problem.
With its young guns stepping up, National University tripped Letran 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 25-11 yesterday in the V-League Collegiate Challenge women’s division at the Paco Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs had no problem even with the absence of aces Belen and Solomon due to national team duties.
Sophomore Kaye Bombita and Myrtle Escanlar unleased 19 and 16 points, respectively for NU.
Rookie Celine Marsh also had 10 markers and nine digs while skipper Abegail Pono tossed 13 excellent sets along with seven points in the Lady Bulldogs’ opening match.
“We still need the maturity, especially mga rookies and not much exposed players sila so big boost pa rin sa team and sa confidence nila itong panalo,” NU assistant coach Karl Dimaculangan said.
“Marami pa kailangan na adjustment and improvement na kailangan namin gawin, especially on the verge of last year na rin talaga nila Bella, Aly, mga senior players, so kailangan nila masanay na pagdating sa game,” he added.
Outside hitter Gia Maquilang and opposite spiker Judiel Nitura paced the Lady Knights, who slipped to 1-1, with 15 and 13 markers, respectively.
Earlier, University of the Philippines overpowered Lyceum 25-16, 25-23, 15-25, 25-20 for its second straight win.
