WILL College of St. Benilde complete a historic back-to-back title, or will Lyceum live to fight another day?
Which team’s goal will be achieved will be known when the Lady Blazers face the Lady Pirates today in Game 2 of their best-of-3 finals showdown for the 98th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The game is set at 2 p.m., with CSB seeking to bag its second straight crown and cap a second perfect season in a row, while Lyceum is trying to forge a winner-take-all duel.
Game 3, if needed, will be on Sunday at the same venue.
In men’s play, Perpetual Help also aim to finish off San Beda University in Game 2 at 2 p.m. and annex a three-peat.
The Lady Bladers hurdled the Lady Pirates in the finals’ opener 25-17, 25-19, 25-19 last Tuesday.
“Maraming marami (i-improve). Marami kaming errors, marami kaming kailangan pang gawin. I try to tell them na huwag mag-base sa kalaban, kumbaga, we need to improve ourselves,” CSB coach Jerry Yee said. “Iyong kalaban namin dito is iyong sarili naman so sana magtuloy-tuloy.”
Reigning finals MVP Gayle Pascual, team captain Cloanne Mondonedo, Jade Gentapa, Michelle Gamit, Zamantha Nolasco and Jessa Dorog are expected to banner the Lady Blazers’ attack.
Lyceum will bank on Joan Doguna, Johna Dolorito, Janeth Tulang, Jewel Maligmat, Zonxi Dahab and skipper Venice Puzon.
