DEFENDING champion LA Salle clobbered Far Eastern University 25-20, 25-17, 25-22 yesterday for its second straight win in the 86th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Reigning Rookie-MVP Angel Canino sparkled with 13 markers along with seven excellent receptions for the Lady Spikers, while opposite hitter Shevana Laput added 10 markers.
Libero Lyka De Leon shone on defense with 16 digs and 12 excellent receptions as La Salle rose to 2-0.
“Iyon nga, medyo nag-struggle nga kasi sobrang erratic parang tentative iyong galaw nila so pinaalalahanan lang namin na bumalik sa sistema,” Lady Spikers assistant coach Noel Orcullo said.
The Lady Tamaraws, who got seven points from Gerzel Petallo, slipped to 1-1.
Later, rookie Angge Poyos led University of Santo Tomas to a come-from-behind 18-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 win over University of East.
Poyos exploded with 24 points, 19 off attacks, three service aces and two blocks, , along with 11 excellent receptions for UST, which joined La Salle on top with a similar 2-0 mark.
Opposite spiker Regina Jurado fired 16 markers and eight digs, Xyza Gula scored 10, while libero Detdet Pepito had 13 excellent receptions and 12 digs for the Golden Tigresses.
