TOKYO Olympic Games veteran Kristina Knott is set to resume training soon to boost her bid to qualify for the 100 and 200-meter sprints in the World Athletic Championships scheduled July 15 to 24 next year in Eugene, Oregon, according to American coach Rohsaan Griffin.

“KK’s (Knott’s initials) training will resume in about a week. We will concentrate on the same two events (100 and 200-meter runs) as you can see in the sprints performance this season you have to be able to run both,” Griffin noted. “The best of the best did well in both so that’s what we’re shooting for.”

Knott struggled in her Olympic debut in the 200-meter dash in Japan, winding up 27th overall after finishing fifth and last in her opening heat in a time of 23.80 seconds, way off her national mark of 23.01 seconds set in ruling the same event in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Griffin attributed her dismal outing to Olympic jitters and the stifling summer heat that left her vomiting and taken to the medical station for proper attention shortly after she crossed the finish line.

The Texas-based American mentor, who has been a consultant of the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association since 2016, said Knott has not lost her desire to race again and is keen on qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
