WITH virtually no rest at all after vying in the recent ICSTI Philippine Athletics Championships, Olympic hopefuls Kristina Knott and Robyn Brown travelled to Europe to see action in two meets, beginning with the Canarias Invitational in the city of Santa Cruz in Tenerife, Spain last night (early morning in Manila).
Tokyo Olympian Knott, who swept the women’s 100-m and 200-meter runs in the national meet held at the Philsports track oval in Pasig City, was scheduled to see action in the 200-meter run while Brown, who took runner-up honors behind Lauren Hoffman in the women 400-meter hurdles, was set to take part in her pet event.
Both of them are trying to join Olympic-bound pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena in the Paris Summer Games in July by either matching or surpassing the entry standards in their respective events or going up the World Athletics qualifying rankings.
The entry standard in the women’s 200-meter run is 22.57 seconds while 54.85 seconds is the qualifying time for the women’s 400-meter hurdles.
With the WA Continental Tour bronze competition to be held at the Centro de Atletismo de Tenerife, Knott is keen on raising her current ranking of No. 46 in the women’s 200-meter race where 46 quota places are at stake.
