AFTER an action-packed opening day in the Shakey’s Super League last Saturday, the SSL cancelled yesterday’s matches due to super typhoon “Karding.”
In a statement yesterday morning, SSL President Dr. Ian Laurel announced the suspension of games as the northern portion of Metro Manila was placed under Signal No. 3.
“The organizers decided to cancel today’s games, Sept. 25, Sunday, at Rizal Memorial Coliseum due to Super Typhoon Karding that is expected to make landfall today. With this, Metro Manila has been placed under Signal No. 3 Category,” Laurel said.
Called off were the College of St. Benilde-Letran duel at noon and Adamson University-Emilio Aguinaldo College at 2 o’clock. The matchup between University of Santo Tomas and Lyceum scheduled at 4 p.m. was also part of the cancelled showdowns as well as the battle pitting University of the Philippines and Mapua at 6.
According to the league, SSL will adjust the suspended games and will honor the tickets of the Sept. 25 ticket holders for the updated schedule of the matches.
“All ticket holders of Sept. 25 games will be honored on the new schedule. Matches for Oct. 1 and 2 will be adjusted to accommodate the canceled matches of Sept. 25. Further advisory will be made. On behalf of the organizers, thank you for your understanding and support. Stay safe everyone,” Laurel said.
University of the East, Perpetual Help, Far Eastern University, and the Golden Tigresses began their respective campaigns on a high note.
