THE national karate team will take a short break during the Holy Week and will resume its training for the Vietnam Southeast Asian Games next month in a Metro Manila hotel starting April 19, according to karate chief Ricky Lim.

“We found a benefactor in the owner of the Joy Nostalg hotel in Ortigas, Pasig. He will provide the team with room and board while the hotel ballroom will be used as the training venue,” Lim said yesterday after the national karatekas went down from their Baguio training camp last Monday.

The national athletes started training at the Teacher’s Camp in Baguio in early January.

Lim, the Karate Pilipinas Sports Foundation, Inc. president, named the members of the national team that will compete in 14 events in the Vietnam SEA Games, led by 2019 SEAG gold medalists Junna Tsukii and Jamie Christine Lim.

Also competing in the women’s kumite (sparring) are Mae Eso Soriano and Lemon Misu while Jason Macaalay, Matthew Manantan, Prince Alejo, Ivan Agustin, Oliver Manalac and Eugene Dagohoy will see action in the men’s kumite.

Taking part in the men’s kata (forms) are John Enrico Vasquez, Naoki Alforte, Laurence Nopre and Felix Calpusan while the women’s kata squad is made up Ricca Torres, Sarah Pangilinan and Nicole Dantes.
