JOSE Rizal University giftwrapped yesterday a fitting present to graduating spikers Dolly Grace Verzosa and Renesa Melgar.
The Lady Bombers charged back from two sets down, pulling off a nail-biting 25-11, 16-25, 17-25, 25-21, 17-15 victory over Lyceum to clinch the last semifinals berth in the 97th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Paco Arena.
Sydney Niegos showed the way for JRU with 14 points built on nine attacks, while Verzosa backed her up with 11 markers off 10 spikes.
Melgar also had nine points for the Lady Bombers, who scored a big follow-up to their 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 triumph over San Beda University last Friday and wound up with a 5-4 card after the eliminations.
JRU tied Mapua University with same slate but will advance to only their second Final Four stint overall and first since 2018 due to the winner-over-the-other rule. — Abby Toralba
