Japanese team bags finals slot

WITH Tamaru Asaka showing the way, Kurashiki Ablaze of Japan ousted PLDT yesterday 25-15, 23-25, 25-14, 25-23 and forged a title clash with Creamline in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

Asaka scored 30 points while Saki Tanabe had a double-double of 15 markers and 12 digs as the Japanese team posted its fourth straight win in the semifinals.

Akane Hiraoke also contributed to the triumph with 11 markers while setter Kyoka Ohshima tossed 19 excellent sets.

The Japanese guest squad takes on reigning champion Creamline in a winner-take-all championship battle on Sunday at the same venue.

Before the finale, the two squads will meet in a preview of their title match today at 6:30 p.m.

Royse Tubino led the High Speed Hitters with 23 markers and 10 digs while Fiola Ceballos added 15 points and 17 excellent receptions.

The High Speed Hitters finished the semis with 2-3 card.
