With the victory, the Japanese belles scored a fitting follow-up to their 25-18, 25-29, 25-22 triumph over Thailand last Sunday and took the early lead in Pool B with a 2-0 mark.

“It’s kinda hard for us to get on our pace but at the end of it we got to play our volleyball and that was really nice,” setter Mika Shibata, who had four points in the match, said through an interpreter.

“We’re getting better and better, little by little and we got to play our volleyball. The fact that we’re winning two games in a row that’s great,” she added.

In the second match, defending champion China nipped Vietnam 25-12, 25-6, 29-31, 21-25, 15-12 to also stay unscathed in Pool A.

Zhou Yetong starred for China with 27 points, Zhuang Yushan scored 21 markers, while Wu Mengjie and Hu Mingyuan had 17 and 16 points, respectively.

Vi Thi Nhu Quynh paced Vietnam with 14 points, while skipper Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Pham Thi Nguyet Anh added 13 markers apiece.

Taiwanese skipper Chang Li-Wen led Chinese Taipei with 16 points, while opposite spiker Lin Shu-Ho had 10 markers.
