Issue of ‘missing’ clay shooting targets pressed

FORMER Philippine National Shooting Association president Luis “Chavit” Singson and former national shooter Raul Arambulo yesterday appealed to Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richard Bachmann to release the documents regarding the “missing clay” targets removed from the PSC shooting range inside the Bureau of Corrections property in Muntinlupa.

“Both Gov. Chavit and myself are requesting Chairman Bachmann to release the annexes (supporting documents) of the PSC report on the ‘missing’ clays so that we will know what really happened to them,” Arambulo said.

Arambulo and Singson, along with other shotgun shooters, had pooled resources to buy P1.9 million worth of clay targets in 2018 through the Philippine National Shooting Association to help in the development of the sport.

The clay target, all 163,800 of them, were stored in two 20-foot container vans within the PSC shooting range near the New Bilibid Prison.

But they were reported “missing” when Arambulo and another former national shooter, Ed Fernandez, inquired about them to the PNSA Moving Target Aggrupation Committee last January.

The MTA committee is made up of Dr. Adel Sun, Jerry Sun and PNSA secretary general Yryne Garcia.

On the request of Fernandez, Arambulo and Singson, an inquiry conducted by the PSC through the initiative of then acting executive director Atty. Guillermo Iroy Jr. was held.

PSC Sports Facilities Division chief Julia Llanto reported last July 19 that the container vans containing the targets had been removed from the premises by Desiderio Laperal, the PNSA shotgun coordinator at that time.

Among the annexes that Singson and Arambulo are requesting is the PSC logbook to determine the date or dates when the container vans were removed from the PSC shooting range.

“Kaya nakikiusap kami kay chairman Richard Bachmann, paki-release na ‘yung annexes ng PSC report para malaman namin kung ano talaga ang nangyari. Matagal na namin hinahanap yan,” Arambulo said.

“Kaya dumulog kami kay past president Gov. Chavit kasi hindi kami pinakikinggan,” he said.

Singson said he had donated his own money to support the PNSA and shooting in general.
