THE Gilas Pilipinas women squad absorbed a 60-97 loss to Hungary yesterday in Group C play of the FIBA Women’s World Cup pre-qualifying tourney at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda.
The lasses of coach Pat Aquino fell to 0-2and kissed their hopes goodbye while Hungary improved to 1-1.
Veteran guard Afril Bernardino tallied 11 points, six rebounds, four steals, and an assist that went for naught.
Fil-Am Ella Fajardo chipped in 10 markers as Naomi Panganiban and UAAP MVP Kacey Dela Rosa combined for 18 points in the losing effort.
“They had a tough loss (the other day against Senegal) maybe it’s something that we, you know, we want to prepare for it, but the thing is they got the better of us,” Aquino said. “Coming in the game, they started strong, and we had to scramble up.
“Get things going for us. It was really hard to get going but at the end of the day we learned a lot,” he added.
Agnes Toron showed the way for the Hungarians with 25 points while Reka Lelik and Debora Dubei chipped in 13 markers each.
