OLYMPIC hopeful Lauren Hoffman opened her track and field season over the weekend by placing third with a time of 53.91 seconds in the women’s 400-meter run of the Bob Pollock Invitational at the Clemson University Indoor Track in Clemson, South Carolina.
A former Duke University varsity ace, Hoffman was narrowly edged out of second spot by Clemson University’s Ken’naria Gadson (53.69), who took runner-up honors behind Maya Singletary (52.34) in the meet named after the late Clemson University Tigers track coach Bob Pollock.
Placing fifth with a time of 54.07 seconds was Hoffman’s teammate, Angela Frank, who also finished eighth in the women’s 200-meter run at 23.86 seconds.
Hoffman, who is eyeing to compete in the women’s 400-meter hurdles in the Paris Olympics, and Frank are supported by FilAm Sports, the group formed by California-based former national pole vaulter Ed Lasquete to scout and nurture athletic potentials with Filipino blood in the US.
