Griffins complete semis cast

VNS-One Alicia completed the Final Four cast of the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference after ousting Army-Katinko 25-20, 25-16, 26-28, 25-21 yesterday at the Paco Arena.

Skipper Ben San Andres sizzled with 19 points, 16 receptions and eight digs for the Griffins, while middle blocker Kim Malabunga had 16 markers.

Kevin Montemayor contributed 15 kills, while Uriel Mendoza produced 11 points for VNS-One Alicia.

“Actually, na-execute lang naman nila iyong trinaining namin,” Griffins coach Ralph Ocampo. “Kasi ang number one na problem namin noong nag-start iyong competition is iyong jelling namin, iyong mga bagong players naming, so iyon iyong winork talaga (namin), trinabaho namin.

“Ang goal lang namin sa semifinals, mas maging consistent pa iyong mga ginagalaw namin, ma-check din namin iyong mga kalaban. Surely, siguro makakasilat kami diyan,” he added.

Joining the Griffins who placed fourth following the elimination round with a 3-3 card were the NU-Sta. Elena Nationals, PGJC-Navy Sealions, and reigning champions Cignal HD Spikers.

Madz Gampong finished the match with 13 points while John Daniel Diwa had 11 markers for Army-Katinko which ended the eliminations with 1-5 card.

In the first game, PGJC-Navy ripped Santa Rosa 25-12, 25-11, 25-22.

Joshua Umandal and skipper Greg Dolor starred for the Sealions with 12 points each, while Jimmy Enting added eight kills.

PGCJ-Navy ended the eliminations with a 5-1 record.

Jade Disquitado posted 17 points and seven digs for Santa Rosa which unfortunately finished the eliminations with 1-5 card and will not advance to the semis.
