WITH the imports arriving in trickles, the PBA is now looking at the possibility of further resetting the Governors Cup’s opening to Dec. 5.
According to Commissioner Willie Marcial, he is now mulling whether to move the opening that has been set at Nov. 28.
“Either (Dec.) 5 or 8, mga days na malapit doon,” Marcial told Malaya-Business Insight. “Depende sa dating ng imports.”
Current circumstances seem to point to such target dates being improbable to hit.
After the reinforcements are all in, Marcial wants to give the teams the chance to practice with them anywhere from eight to 10 days official games get going.
As of yesterday, Justin Brownlee of Ginebra, Tony Bishop of Meralco and Henry Walker of Rain or Shine still have to plane in.
There’s also the quarantine period that all foreigners must go through.
“May nagsasabing three (days), may nagsasabing five,” noted Marcial. “Kung mas matagal quarantine nila baka kailangan talagang mag-atras tayo ng opening. Tingnan natin. Sana huwag na five days.”
The other areas the PBA is looking at, primarily on how limited fans would be allowed inside the playing venue, are also progressing.
Aside from the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig, where PBA 3×3 games are being held and which would act as main venue for the Governors Cup, the PBA looks to return to the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Mall of Asia Arena and Astrodome in Pasay, San Juan Arena, and the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.
“Sinulatan natin mga LGUs, tapos sumagot ang Pasig,” related Marcial. “Kung may fans, gusto nila mag-present kami sa konseho (city council) kung ano procotols.”
