RISING Filipina amateur golfer Rianne Malixi is one of four amateurs set to tee off today in the prestigious Amundi Evian Championship, women’s pro golf’s fifth major, at the par-71, 6,504-yard Evian Resort Club in Haute-Savoie, France.

Malixi, 18, who scored a rare double in ruling the US Girls’ Junior and US Women’s Amateur Championships in 2024, joined the ranks of Mexico’s Clarisa Temelo, Malaysia’s Jeneath Wong and Spain’s Carla Barnat Escuder, who will be up against the world’s best pros.

A top cash prize of $1.2 million (around P67.48 million) will be awarded to the winner out of the total pot of $8 million (P452.29 million), with Japanese defending champion Ayaka Furue, who won her first major in ruling the tournament in 2024, hoping to make it two in a row.

A freshman at Duke University, Malixi also saw action in the 80th US Women’s Open but missed the cut at the Erin Hills course in Erin, Wisconsin.
