PERFORMING better but a bit too late, Bianca Pagdanganan fired an even par 72 yesterday (Sunday in the US) to wind up in a nine-way tie for 52nd at the close of the 71st KPMG Women’s Championship at Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco in Frisco, Texas.
Pagdanganan had her best round in four days with three birdies against one double bogey – on the par-3 No. 8 – and a bogey in assembling nines of 38-34 over the par-72, 6,604-yard layout at the new home of the PGA of America.
She had a total tally of 301, netting $33,648 (around P1.936 million), 17 shots Australian champ Minjin Lee, who stumbled with a 74 on the last day but still won the LPGA’s third golf major by three shots with a 287 aggregate to pocket the top prize of $1.8 million (P103.85 million).
A two-time Olympian, Pagdanganan somehow finally got to keep her drives in check, hitting 11 of 14 fairways but had problems with her approach to all greens, having none in regulation.
It could have been worse, but she also saved two shots out of the bunker.
