GILAS Pilipinas bounced back from its sorry opening match defeat to Chinese-Taipei by scoring a 64-61 win over Iran yesterday in the 42nd William Jones Cup women’s basketball tournament at Taipei Peace Basketball Hall.

Jhazmin Joson and Kacey Dela Rosa led the Nationals with 12 points as Gilas rebounded from an 85-89 defeat to Chinese Taipei A last Saturday.

Jack Animam had 15 rebounds aside from seven points as the nationals improved to 1-1.

The Filipinas take on Chinese Taipei B at 5 o’clock (Manila time) tonight.

After a good start, Gilas sputtered in the second quarter, enabling Iran to take a 30-23 advantage at halftime.

The nationals turned the tables in the third quarter and scored 26 to take a 49-39 lead, then held their ground the rest of the way.

Negin Rasoulipour Khameneh led Iran with 18 points while Asadi Aghdash Nahideh contributed 11 markers.
