Gilas sets sights next on SEAG

THE seemingly perennial problem of forming a team– one that will have enough preparation for international tournaments– is gnawing at Gilas Pilipinas anew.

Coach Chot Reyes admitted tapping collegiate standouts for the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam from May 12 to 23 is unlikely since the 97th NCAA and 84th UAAP cage wars are set to kick off in March and will run up to May.

“I don’t think we’ll have any of the collegiate players because I think the UAAP will end on May 12 at the earliest and May 19 at the latest,” Reyes said.

“The Southeast Asian Games, if I’m not mistaken, is May 12 so I don’t think we will have the UAAP players at our disposal,” he added.

Tabbing PBA players should be a logical choice, but Reyes said he and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas will first have to convene with the pro league’s brass.

“First of all, we have to meet with the PBA to synchronize calendars,” Reyes said.
