SCOTLAND dominated the Philippines virtually from start to finish en route to a 2-1 victory late Saturday night, eliminating the Filipinas from contention in the Pinatar Cup at the Pinatar Arena in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain.

Living up to their No. 25 spot in the FIFA Women’s world ratings, the Scots bullied the charges of Australian coach Alen Stajcic throughout the match, scoring a goal in each half from Lauren Davidson and Rachel Corsie in the 39th and 57th minutes, respectively.

Meryl Serrano came off the bench to score in the 90th minute, averting what could have been a second shutout loss for the World-Cup bound Filipinas, the only Asian team in the short four-nation single-round tournament.

Wales held top favorite Iceland to a scoreless draw in the other match, which enabled the Icelanders to remain in the front seat with four points on goal difference while the Welsh, who beat the Filipinas 1-0 last week, were in second spot also with four points but with one less goal.

The Filipinas wind up their campaign against Iceland tomorrow (early Wednesday in Manila) before some of them return to the country for the third leg of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy Tour from March 1 to 2 in Manila.
