AS part of their build-up for the AFC Women’s Under-17 Asian Championships in Indonesia next month, the Young Filipinas face reigning PFF Women’s League champion Kaya-Iloilo Football Club tomorrow at the University of Makati football field.

“The Filipinas are in the final leg of preparations for the upcoming AFC competition in Bali, Indonesia,” said national women’s team media officer Lisette Marques of the meet set from May 6 to 19 in the popular resort island.

The match is scheduled for 7 pm.

She said the Young Filipinas will be gunning for one of the three slots at stake in the competition for the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup to be held in the Dominican Republic in October.

They will be making their debut in the eight-team tournament and are bracketed in Group A together with host Indonesia, North and South Korea while Group B is composed of Japan, China, Australia, and Thailand.

The Pinay footballers open their campaign against the hosts on May 6, face the North Koreans three days, later before winding up the group stage against the South Koreans on May 12.

Only the top two finishers in each group advance to the crossover semifinals, with the finalists sealing tickets to the World Women’s U-17 tournament.

The losing semifinalists will battle for third place to decide the third and last World Cup qualifier from the continent.
