CEBU CITY. – Cebu Football Club greeted newly-hired American coach Joshua Schirmer with a 2-0 shutout of University of the Philippines in Group B of the Copa Paulino Alcantara at the Dynamic Herb Borromeo Sports Complex here last Sunday.

Nigerian striker Chima Uzoka scored a brace — one goal each in the first and second half — in giving the Gentle Giants the win in the five-squad group of the tournament organized by the Philippines Football League and sanctioned by the Philippine Football Federation.

“We knew it was always going to be a difficult game, they (UP) are well coached, have good shape, and good tactics. But to be honest, my expectation was we would win the first game,” said Schirmer, savoring his first win with the squad

A former youth coach for Orlando City FC, the Hawaiian-born American took over the helm three weeks ago from Turkish mentor Mehmet Akil.
