FILIPINAS ace striker Sarina Bolden yesterday thanked the Australian A-League Newcastle Jets for releasing her so she can ply her trade for a yet unnamed Italian side.
“Hi Jets fans, Sarina Bolden here, just wanted to say it was an amazing season this past season, filled with history-breaking and record-breaking moments. I am just grateful to be a part of it,” Bolden said in a video posted on Facebook yesterday.
“All the best for the upcoming season and I will remember you all! As always, up Jets,” said the celebrated forward, who scored the winning header in the Filipinas’ rousing 1-0 upset of the hometown Kiwi Ferns in last year’s Women’s World Cup match in Wellington, New Zealand.
Her farewell came a day after the Newcastle Jets announced her departure on their website.
“Although Bolden was contracted to the Club for the 2024/25 season, the Jets have agreed to let her pursue her dream of playing in a top European league,” the Jets said.
“The Philippines international went on to score 14 goals in total, breaking the Club record for the most goals in an A-League Women’s season. Bolden was rewarded for her outstanding season with inclusion in the 2023-24 A-League Women PFA Team of the Season,” the team noted.
Newcastle Jets CEO Shane Mattiske cited Bolden’s time and contribution to the club.
“We wish her and her partner all the best for the future and we would love to see Sarina back in Newcastle playing for the Jets again in the future,” Mattiske said.
