GETTING four points, or one win and a draw, will be the target of German coach Michael Weiss in the first two matches of the Azkals in the second round of the joint World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers in November.

“In the World Cup qualifiers, we have Vietnam and most probably Indonesia in the first two games and the target is four points,” Weiss said last Monday night on the eve of the national team’s friendly match with Afghanistan.

The Azkals are bracketed in Group F with Iraq and the first-round winner of the series starting next month between Brunei and Indonesia, which is heavily tipped to advance.

The Pinoy booters kick off their campaign against the Vietnamese on Nov. 16.

“That will not be easy to achieve so that is why we’re trying to change the style a little bit.

If we want to succeed in the second round, we have to create our chances. We just cannot rely on defense and counterattacks,” he stressed.

Recalling his heydays during his first time as mentor of the Azkals, Weiss also acknowledged the fans also “want something spectacular. The goal is for the boys to play technically nice football.”

He noted the goal scored by striker Patrick Reichelt in the 1-all draw against Chinese-Taipei in Taiwan last week “which was a smart goal, a good goal. And we want our team to play like that.
