LIPA CITY, Batangas. – The next Sarina Bolden? Or a Stephan Schrock in the making?

The prestigious Aboitiz Football Cup, the country’s top 7-a side tilt, eyes to discover new players in the 22nd edition of the tourney from Nov. 12 to Dec. 10 at the Olympic-sized Aboitiz Pitch in LIMA Estate.

“Starting out in Cebu, and then expanding here in Luzon, the whole intention here is grassroots development for kids to play,” tournament organizer and former national team standout Rely San Agustin said in the meet’s press conference Thursday at The Outlets here.

“We want to create new stories every year. It’s really all about the legacy. (The league) is sacred, and we are all part of this edition of the Aboitiz,” he added.

After being shelved the past two years due to the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, the grassroots program will return with 14 categories from mixed 7-under, mixed 9-under, mixed 11-under, mixed 13-under, boys 15-under, boys 17-under, boys 19-under, boys 23-under, mixed open, men’s open, women’s open, veterans 30-39, veterans 40-49, and veterans 50 and above.

It will run every Saturday for the next five weeks, while its opening will be graced by former Philippine Azkals skipper James Younghusband.
