CARLOS Edriel Yulo added the men’s vault and parallel bars gold medals to his treasure trove last Sunday as he finished on a high in the Senior Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

BEST-OF-‘EM: Carlos Edriel Yulo, beaming, waves to the crowd after his stellar performance in the Senior Men’s Asian Gymnastics Championships.

With the continent’s gymnastics aces from countries like Japan and China skipping the meet to focus on their Olympic preparations, Yulo virtually had the spotlight on his own and made the most of it at the Gymnastics Sports Place in the Uzbek capital.

Banking on his strong first vault that netted him 15.233 points, the pint-sized Pinoy phenom sprang his way to the top spot with a score of 14.833 points, .10 of a point higher than Uzbek silver medalist Abdulaziz Mirvaliev (14.733) while Malaysia’s Muhammad Shairul Aimy took the bronze (14.466).

Capping a fruitful day, Yulo secured the gold in the parallel bars with a high score of 15.133 points, nipping China’s Yin Dehang (15.033) while Uzbek Rasuljon Abdurakhimov took the bronze (14.866).

Counting his victories in the individual all-around and floor exercise earlier, Yulo ended the meet surpassing his haul of three golds, one silver and one bronze in the Singapore edition of the competition nearly a year ago.

He will now be able to compete in the prestigious but demanding individual all-around event in the Paris Olympic Games.

“It’s a wrap! Asian Championships 2024,” exclaimed Yulo on his Facebook account after his productive outing.

“Marami mang mga pag-subok ang pinagdadaanan, buo po ang loob ko dahil alam kong nasa tabi kita palagi Lord God. Napakasaya ko po at nakapag-perform po ako ng galing sa puso ko,” he said.

“Sobrang humanga at proud din ako sa PHI MAG team sa ipinakita nating performance, mas lalo pa nating pag-igihan . Salamat po ng madami Panginoon sa palaging pag-gabay at pag-protekta sa amin!” Yulo added as he cited the other members of the men’s artistic gymnastics team.

“Thank you team Ph, Ma’am Cynthia (Carrion, gymnastics chief), Coaches Aldrin + Hazel, Mahal ko Chloe & your family. At sa inyo po na palaging nagdadasal at naka-subaybay sa aming lahat,” he added.
