STRIKER Sarina Bolden had a brace as the Philippines surged past Chinese-Taipei 4-1 in the second half yesterday for a rousing start in the second round of the Asia Olympic women’s football qualifiers at the Perth Rectangular Stadium in Australia.

Down 0-1 two minutes into the second half from an opening goal by Hsu Yi-yun, the Filipinas struck back hard with Bolden converting a penalty kick in the 54th minute, then added another marker in the 83rd off a nifty feed by Quinley Quezada.

Comebacking Katrina Guillou (60th) and Chandler McDaniel (90th) booted in the other goals as the charges of Australian coach Mark Torcaso completed the comeback for their first win in Group A.

It was a huge morale-boosting victory for the Filipinas, who face the powerhouse Matildas tomorrow at the same arena before capping their group play versus Iran on Nov. 1.

Only the top team in the group will automatically advance to the next round where only two tickets in the Asian continent are available for the Paris Olympic Games women’s football tournament next year.
