PRECOCIOUS Mazel Alegado, 9, won the Exposure all-girls skateboarding event Bowl Advanced Category of the 2023 Exposure Skate competition yesterday (Saturday in the US) in Encinitas, California.
“A Filipina-American skater based in Los Angeles, Alegado won over her fellow competitors from different parts of the US as she skated the bowl event with excellence,” said former roller sports chief Monty Mendigoria, who was informed by the athlete’s mother, Crissy, of the young athlete’s exploits.
“She (Alegado) is the youngest member of the Philippine national skateboarding team and saw action in the last 19 Hangzhou Asian Games,” said Mendigoria, who is credited for ushering the young athlete to play for the country at an early age.
Based on its Facebook page, Exposure Skate is an American non-profit organization “dedicated to empowering and girls through skateboarding.” — Bong Pedralvez
