CALL it a further stamp of approval.
PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez, the first four-time MVP of the PBA, will get a commemorative stamp from the Philippine Postal Corporation for being an “Outstanding Filipino” — former top basketball player, sportsman and businessman.
“It is with great pleasure to inform you (Fernandez) that we will honor you with your own commemorative stamp being an Outstanding Filipino. This is in line with the 75th anniversary of the First Stamp of the Philippine Republic,” Postmaster General and CEO Norman Fulgencio wrote Fernandez last Feb. 7.
Fulgencio added that Fernandez’s selection for the distinction was in line with “the series of stamps the PPC will issue for the Living Legends, namely, World Renowned Series, Outstanding Filipino Series, and the Forever Remembered Series.”
Fernandez, who shared with Malaya-Business Insight a copy of the letter, said he was invited by the PPC for the unveiling of his commemorative stamps on Feb. 26, Saturday, in front of the Manila Central Post Office across Liwasang Bonifacio.
“I am humbled and honored at the same time that at least we are given due recognition by the PPC for our sports and other achievements,” said the former national player and two-time Asian Games veteran.
