FILIPINO lifters sustained their glittering run last Wednesday night with Rosalindo Faustino and Rosegie Ramos sweeping their respective events in the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Products of the highly-successful program of Zamboanga City and national coach Allen Diaz, Faustino swept the 49kg youth division while Ramos topped the 49kg junior division to boost the national team’s tally to 12 golds in just three days of action.

Competing in the 13 to 17-year-old division, Faustino lifted 74 kilos in the snatch and 84 kilos in the clean-and-jerk for a winning total of 151 while Ramos was just as superb in the 15-20 junior class with lifts of 80, 93 and 176 kilos, respectively.

“Even for me, this is quite a revelation. We garnered 12 golds in three days and Vanessa Sarno has yet to perform. I can’t ask for more, praise the Lord!” exclaimed weightlifting chief Monico Puentevella.

Another Zamboanga product, Angeline Colonia, set the winning tone over the weekend by bagging two golds and one silver while setting a new World and Asian record of 62 kilos in the snatch in dominating the youth 40kg division.

World youth champion Rose Jean Ramos followed Colonia’s sterling showing by hauling four golds, one silver and one bronze in the youth and junior classes in the 45kg division last Tuesday.

Prince Keil Morales also copped a bronze in the youth 49kg category as his contribution to the country’s output.
