Falcons have what it takes

ARE the Falcons of Adamson University capable of ending their decades-long dry spell in the UAAP?

Although admitting he does not want to pressure himself too much, newly appointed Soaring Falcons coach Nash Racela is raring to prove his worth anew and give the team its first title after 45 long and weary years.

“I don’t want to really pressure myself in delivering that long lost championship for Adamson but I always believe that if we do the right things every day, the results will follow,” Racela said on Radyo5 92.3 News FM’s Power and Play program hosted by former PBA Commissioner Noli Eala.

“If those results end up winning championships for Adamson, then that is most welcome for us,” he added.

Racela, who also called the shots for TNT in the PBA, was handed the pink slip by Blackwater after the Bossing lost 19 straight games, including a 0-13 card in the last Philippine Cup in Bacolor, Pampanga before he was tapped last December to take over at the helm of Adamson.

He said he is both excited and anxious about his return to the collegiate ranks after six years.

“Siyempre excited. Siyempre matagal ko ring hinintay makabalik sa college basketball kaya talagang may halong kaunting kaba, kaunting excitement na rin kasi in less than three weeks’ time magsisimula na ulit ang UAAP,” Racela said.

“Naalala ko nga ang huling championship kung hindi ako nagkakamali was during the time of boss Hector Calma and masyado na ngang matagal na panahon.

In 2015, Racela steered Far Eastern University to its last crown against University of Santo Tomas.

The league is set to kick off its new season in a bubble on March 26 with the centerpiece events men’s basketball, women’s volleyball and cheerdance leading the calendar.

The slate also includes men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball, men’s beach volleyball, poomsae, and men’s and women’s chess.

The Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Smart Araneta Coliseum, The Arena in San Juan, and the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig are being considered as venues of the cage wars.
