ALEX Eala and Russian Oksana Selkmeteva found Lithuania’s Ustina Mikulskyte and Romania’s Oana Georgeta too tough to handle, absorbing a 3-6, 5-7 loss in the women’s doubles finals of the Platja D’Aro tournament in Platja D’Aro, Spain last Saturday.
One day short of her 16th birthday, Eala went into the match aiming for her first doubles plum as a pro and second title since winning the W15 Manacor singles championship on her home turf at the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy in Mallorca.
Eala had earlier bowed out in the second round of women’s singles play to Spain’s Irene Burillo Escorihueta 2-6, 4-6. — Bong Pedralvez
