FILIPINO tennis prodigy Alex Eala raised her game a notch to breeze past Swiss Joanne Zuger 6-4, 6-1 last Tuesday night in the first round of the W60 tourney of the ITF World Women’s tour in Grenoble, France.
Heating up after a slow start, Eala broke Zuger in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead and never looked back in picking up her third straight win in as many days after winning her two matches in the qualifiers to gain a ticket to the main draw.
In the next round, the 2021 French Open juniors doubles champion will face fourth-seeded Frenchwoman Chloe Paquet, who dispatched whipped Latvia’s Kamilla Bartone 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round.
