PRESIDENT Duterte yesterday recognized the efforts of 397 Filipino athletes who competed and brought home medals in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.
The President, in a simple ceremonial event in Malacañang, conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu with the Rank of Kamagi to the medalists and handed incentives to them.
Under Republic Act No. 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Incentives and Benefits Act, the Philippine Sports Commission shall provide financial incentives to medal-winning athletes — P300,000 for a gold medal, P150,000 for silver, and P50,000 for bronze.
Medalists who broke Philippine records, SEA Games standards, or world records in any measurable international competition may also be eligible for cash rewards, as determined by the PSC.
