NONITO Donaire Jr.’s loss just might be Pinoy bantamweight fighter Reymart Gaballo’s gain.

Donaire tested positive for the COVID-1 virus and was forced to withdraw from his World Boxing Council bantamweight title fight with Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rodriguez on Dec. 19 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, according to boxingscene.com writer Keith Idec in a story posted on the website yesterday.

The Donaire-Rodriguez fight was part of a scheduled triple header organized by American promotions outfit Showtime, the story said.

It would also have been the comeback fight for the popular Pinoy fighter, who marks his 38th birthday on Dec. 16, since losing by unanimous decision to Japanese World Boxing Association super bantamweight and International Boxing Federation bantam kingpin Naoya Inoue in Saitama, Japan in December 2019.
