TOKYO Olympic Games veteran and national skateboarding standout Margielyn Arda Didal suffered injuries in a recent training accident in Cebu, displaying a picture of her wounded face on her official Facebook account last Jan. 6.
“Okay rata direng dapita (We’re okay here),” Didal said in Cebuano in her post that showed her smiling despite a gash on her right eyebrow, blood on the right side of her face, and a slightly swollen lower lip.
PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez, who is back in Cebu, said yesterday that he had tried to get in touch with Didal to find out what happened to her but said the athlete had not responded to his calls at press time.
But Philippine Olympic Committee deputy secretary general Karen Tanchanco Caballero posted on the athlete’s website that Didal was doing fine and was helping in the relief efforts, coursed through the POC, for the victims of Typhoon Odette in Cebu City.
“Thank you guys and especially to Buang (Didal) who recently crashed from skateboarding and still mending her tocino-face and bruises,” Tanchanco said in her post that showed Diaz involved in the relief operations.
“I’m okay na po,” was Didal’s terse reply yesterday when asked how she was doing after the accident.
Didal rose to prominence after winning the women’s street skateboarding gold medal during her debut in the 2018 Asian Games at the Jakabaring Sport City in Palembang, Indonesia.
