LIVING up to his moniker, Japan’s Naoya Inoue destroyed Michael Dasmarinas yesterday, retaining his World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation bantamweight crowns with a third-round knockout of the Filipino challenger at the Virgins Hotel in Las Vegas.
The “Destroyer” struck with a wicked left hook to the right midsection, sending Dasmarinas wincing in pain with a minute and four seconds left in the second round for the first knockdown of the abbreviated match.
Inoue then unleashed another three-shot combo with 36 seconds to go in the third that had the Filipino down on the canvas anew. Although he managed to struggle back to his feet, Dasmarinas was decked for the third and last time with another body blow just before the bell sounded.
