COLLEGE of St. Benilde completed a sweet sweep of the men’s and women’s NCAA Season 99 lawn tennis titles at the end of the tourney at the PCA courts in Plaza Dilao, Paco, Manila.
The Blazing Netters edged the Mapua Cardinals 2-1 to top the men’s side while the Lady Blazers turned back University of Perpetual Help 2-1 to reign supreme in the women’s side.
Francis Lera and Gian Macaraeg routed Al Quiza and Joaquin de Leon, 6-2, 6-4, in doubles play while Reyniel Marcellana edged Aldwyn Rosales, 6-1, 5-7, 7-5, in the deciding second singles. Mapua’s lone win was a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 result by Laurenz Quitara over Carl Ubalde in the opening singles.
Dorelle Lagura and Kiana de Jesus eked out a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 triumph over Lyka Sanoza and Cindy Nuguit and Valeri Desoyo waylaid Aira Nuguit in reclaiming the women’s title CSB last won in the maiden edition of the meet nine years ago.
