FANCIED College of St. Benilde made short work of Jose Rizal University yesterday 25-13, 25-21, 25-9 to remain unbeaten and gain a Final Four slot in the 97th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Paco Arena.
Jade Gentapa powered the Lady Blazers with 16 points, while Michelle Gamit contributed 12 markers.
Mycah Go also had an all-around performance of seven points, 10 digs and five excellent receptions for CSB, which came off a 25-11, 25-22, 25-14 triumph over San Sebastian College last Friday.
The Lady Blazers rose to 7-0 and moved within two wins of an elimination round sweep and an outright finals berth.
The Lady Bombers, coming off a 25-19, 25-20, 20-25, 25-18 victory over Perpetual Help last five days ago, dropped to 3-4.
In the second match, Mapua University edged Lyceum 25-22, 16-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-12 to get back on track.
Nicole Ong and Therese Manalo scored 14 points apiece for the Lady Cardinals. Carla Gaudan had 10 markers, while Willamae Ortega had 27 digs and 17 excellent receptions for Mapua, which snapped a two-game losing skid, counting a 25-20, 25-14, 25-23, 25-13 loss to San Beda University last Friday and improved to 4-3 for fourth. — Abby Toralba
