CSB belles near 3rd place in SSL

COLLEGE of St. Benilde battled back from a set down to frustrate Letran yesterday 21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-17 in Game 1 of their battle for third in the 2024 Shakey’s Super League National Invitationals at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Opposite spiker Clydel Catarig powered the Taft-based crew with a 22-point performance while outside hitter Wielyn Estoque had 15 markers, nine off attacks, three kill blocks and three service aces.

Also contributing to the green and white crew’s victory were Rhea Densing and Zam Nolasco who chipped in 12 and nine markers, respectively.

“Kakagaling ko lang po sa sakit and hindi ko po ini-expect na maging first six (starter) po ako ni coach. Okay naman po kasi nakapag-contribute naman po (ako),” Catarig said after the two-hour match.

The best-of-three series for third continues today at 2 p.m. at the same venue.

Sophomore hitter Gia Maquilang led the offensive load for Letran with 19 points while opposite spiker Judiel Nitura had 12 markers in the losing cause.

Game 2 of the Finals between UAAP champion National University and Far Eastern University is set today at 4 p.m.
