LIVING up to its billing, defending champion Creamline proved too much for Gerflor yesterday, scoring a 25-15, 25-12, 25-10 romp in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Shining in offense and unforgiving in defense, the Cool Smashers battered the Defenders with 44 attack points and stymied their assaults with 11 kill blocks, scoring the most lopsided win so far in the season-ending conference of the league organized by Sports Vision.
Michele Gumabao, who scored back-to-back 20 points in the team’s victories over the Choco Mucho Flying Titans last Oct. 15 and the Cignal HD Spikers in Batangas last weekend, slowed down with 12 markers in the 74-minute victory but earned her a second straight best player of the game honors.
She shared the citation with her teammates, saying: “Teamwork, it’s the most important thing. The connection is there, we just need to follow the system and execute.”
Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses hardly made any effort to motivate his wards and tried new combinations, with his charges all responding to the challenge.
