AFTER winning countless medals for the country as a bowler, Olivia “Bong” Coo said her appointment as a board member of the Philippine Sports Commission is the icing on the cake.
“At my age, to be appointed (to the PSC), ito na ‘yung pinnacle,” the 74-year-old bowling icon told the online Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum yesterday.
Coo, a three-time winner of the World championships and World Cup, said she was surprised for being the first appointee of President Marcos to the incoming PSC board.
The posts of chairman and three other commissioners are still to be filled, with sources saying it will come “very soon.”
Coo, who has to give up the presidency of the Philippine Bowling Federation, is using the lull to feel her way in the government sports agency.
“Pinag-aaralan ko lahat. I’m fast-tracking. Yesterday, I attended the (PSC) flag-raising and I asked for their guidance. It’s a very big task,” said the five-time Asian Games and eight-time SEA Games gold medalist.
Coo said she was surprised when she got a call from the PSC last week and was asked to sit down with Atty. Guillermo Iroy, the PSC executive director and current officer-in-charge.
