Converge will bank on big fighting heart

WHAT Converge lacks in experience and talent, the FiberXers intend to make up for with a big fighting heart and grit.

This is the mindset coach Aldin Ayo’s charges will have when they launch their bid in the PBA season-opening Commissioner’s Cup that gets going Nov. 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“We’re not the most talented team,” Ayo said last Wednesday during the pro league’s media day at the One Esplanade in Pasay. “We’re the youngest team. Since we’re young, we lack experience.

“But iyong kakulangan na iyon will be contested by passion and commitment,” he added.

Ayo’s optimism stems from the addition of Fil-Am guard Schonny Winston, whom they tabbed ninth overall in the 48th season rookie Draft last September.

“Schonny is a fit for us in terms of offense and surprisingly, on defense also. He really is a two-way player, a scorer and at the same time he can defend,” Ayo said of the high-scoring, 6-foot-4 Winston who proved his worth with La Salle in a one-and-done season in the UAAP last year.

“With regard to our plays, he has to spend time doing it, preparing for it and reviewing it because the other guys have been with us for almost over a year. He can’t apply for it in a month or two because what we’re doing here is deep.”
