FANS and those in PBA circles have seen the writing on the wall.
While it appeared to be a stunning turn of events just a little over two weeks before the pro league’s 49th season opens shop, Converge’s decision–or whether it was Aldin Ayo’s–to part ways should not be a surprise.
Ayo and the FiberXers officially ended their partnership yesterday, with the team saying Ayo will no longer call the shots for the young ballclub for the season-opening Governors’ Cup kicking off on Aug. 18.
“It was a mutually agreed decision for both parties to part ways,” FiberXers team manager Jacob Lao said in a statement yesterday. “We are thankful for their dedicated service to the team for almost two years.”
Also leaving is Ayo’s lead assistant tactician, McJour Luib, with deputy Franco Atienza taking over in an interim capacity.
Ayo showed up for the annual rookie Draft last July 14 when Converge selected 6-foot-9 Justine Baltazar as the No. 1 pick overall and was at the helm of the team during the Kadayawan Invitational Basketball Tournament in Davao City over the weekend.
The burning question now is will Baltazar, who has yet to sign a contract with Converge due to his commitment with the Pampanga Giant Lanterns of Gov. Dennis “Delta” Pineda in the MPBL until December, still play for the FiberXers?
