CIGNAL clobbered PLDT yesterday 25-22, 25-15, 25-21, setting its drive for a finals seat in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference on a high note at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
The HD Spikers, who beat Choco Mucho Flying Titans in a knockout match for the second semis seat in Pool B, dominated the first two sets and battled back from 1-6 down in the third to complete another imposing win.
With Ces Molina scoring on a back row push and firing back-to-back kills, the HD Spikers overhauled a 16-17 deficit and closed out the match with a 6-3 binge.
Earlier, Petro Gazz and Foton wrapped up their campaign by winning their classification matches.
The Angels salvaged ninth after outlasting Akari in five sets 25-19, 25-18, 20-25, 20-25, 15-7 while the Tornadoes sealed 11th by surviving an intense battle against Gerflor 26-24, 13-25, 25-21, 26-24.
Cignal evened its card to 1-1, counting its loss to F2 Logistics carried over from the eliminations, while PLDT slipped to 0-2.
“There was no communication (in the early going of the third set) kaya ibinalik lang namin,” said Cignal setter and Player of Game awardee Gel Cayuna, who produced 15 excellent sets and whose loaded serves often baffled PLDT’s defense.
