Cignal too strong for Basilan; Bacolod wins

CIGNAL hurdled Basilan 25-18, 21-25, 25-11, 25-12 yesterday for its second straight win in the PNVF Champions League men’s division at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

Ysay Marasigan pumped in 16 points to lead Cignal, while Marck Espejo and Wendell Miguel contributed 10 kills apiece as the HD Spikers improved to 2-0 in Pool A.

The Tennum Spikers slid to 1-1.

Al-Nasi Amilbahar and Mohammad Sulayman fired eight and seven markers, respectively for Basilan.

The HD Spikers led 10-6 after a running attack from Rex Intal, and were still in command at 18-14.

A back row kill and a service ace from Espejo brought Cignal to set point 24-17 before JP Bugaoan finished the set with a quick hit.

After falling short in the second frame, Cignal got its groove back in the third 7-2 and padded its edge to 20-6.

Chumason Njigha provided the last two points for the HD Spikers on a quick attack and a kill block.

Cignal showed no mercy in the fourth set and surged ahead 11-5 after a service ace from Miguel.

The HD Spikers led by as much as 22-9 as Edmar Bonono shoved the HD Spikers to match point 24-9.

A service error from the side of Basilan sealed the deal for Cignal.

In one of the other matches, TARAG-Lolek Bacolod whipped Baguio 25-14, 25-12, 25-21.

Jay Rack Dela Noche and Gadpray Aresgado led the offense for Bacolod with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

TARAG-Lolek Bacolod rose to 2-0 in the Pool C.

Vincent Palaroan provided five markers for the Highlanders, who dropped to 0-2.
