CARLOS Edriel Yulo will receive a windfall in cash incentives following his prolific performance in the just concluded 31st Vietnam Southeast Asian Games artistic gymnastics competitions at the Quang Ngua Sports Palace in Hanoi last Monday night.
With another awe-inspiring show, Yulo emerged as the country’s most outstanding athlete in the games with five gold and two silver medals, counting his double victories in the vault and high bar on the final day of action, plus a silver in the parallel bars.
Counting his earlier wins in the men’s individual all-around, floor exercise and rings and another silver in the team all-around, the pint-sized champion is expected to net close to P2 million in bonuses under Republic Act 10699, the incentives law, from the Philippine Sports Commission.
Each individual gold that Yulo won is worth P300,000 and the silver P150,000 each for a total of P1.8 million plus his share in the P150,000 the men’s gymnastics squad earned in the team all-around.
The Tokyo-based gymnast said he would keep his winnings in the bank in the meantime while he thinks of another business for his family, which now owns a motorcycle shop in Imus, Cavite.
“Hindi ko pa po alam kung paano palalaguin iyong pera, kaya sa bangko ko muna itatabi. Savings muna,” Yulo said.
