NATIONAL Chess Federation of the Philippines executive director Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales suffered a heart attack last Sunday night that required angioplasty and needs financial help for his recovery and other medical expenses.
“Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales needs our help!” Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna, a Gonzales protege, posted on her Facebook page yesterday.
“GM Jayson is our country’s 9th chess Grandmaster, longtime head coach of the Philippine Women’s chess team and Far Eastern University. I am appealing to all of the people whom he had touched lives – Please, let us help our friend mentor, and coach,” Frayna appealed.
“Last night, Coach Jayson suffered from a heart attack. Doctors performed an emergency angioplasty to save his life. At the moment, he (is) still at the CCU (coronary care unit) under strict observation,” she added.
Frayna, whose rise as the country’s first and only WGM is largely credited to Gonzaless coaching, said an angiogram of her mentor’s heart showed that its right side had “many blocked/narrowed vessels.”
“This means that there are still more (medical) procedures to be done for GM Jayson’s recovery. Coronary procedures are very costly…The running bill as of now is at P600K, and the way it looks (like) the billing may even balloon to millions.
“Please include him in your prayers and daily intentions. Coach Jayson is always a giver, now is the time for us to give back,” said Frayna.
She said donations can be made to GCash no. 09235332970, Janelle F., Paypal, jmfrayna@gmail.com, BPI 1589-2179-49 and BDO, 012450023905, both bank accounts under the name Janelle Mae Frayna.
“Every cent will be 100% directed to GM Jayson’s medical bills. Tulungan natin ngayon si Coach Jayson. Samahan natin siya sa labang ito,” Frayna said.
